In 1920, the USA birth rate stood at approximately 11% while the figure for China was slightly lower, at exactly 10%. From 1920 to 1945, China’s birth rate fluctuated between 5% and 15%. By contrast, the US experienced a significant downward trend in fertility and this figure hit the lowest point at merely 5% in 1945.
Over the following 40 years, the year 1950 witnessed a moderate climb to nearly 15% in fertility in the US. However, the birth rate in China took over that of the US and reached a peak at around one-quarter, before falling marginally to just 2% in the end year. By 2000, the US fertility rate had decreased to just 2%, which was the lowest figure.
