The table below describes the number of employees and factories in England and Wales from 1851 to 1901.

The table illustrates the total and fractional number of worker by gender in the factories of England and Wales over a period of 10 decades ( between 1801 to 1901)
Overall, the total quantity of factories showed an upward trend in the later part while the number of employees declined. Moreover, at the beginning male were the predominant part of the work staffs but the number became almost similar at the end.
Given a close observation to the data, it can be seen that the sum of total plant was the lest 225, which increased over next three decades and reached to the peak of 721 in 1881. After that this figure declined in the next two decades and finally fell in 600 in last decade. Conversely, total number of employees were highest of 477,100 at first decade which dipped significantly in 1901, only 61,000. In respect to other four decades, 1861 the count was 291,000 whereas for other three decades the numbers showed 15000 to 20000 variation.
Coming to gender data, the male were 287,100 in 1851 as opposed to female who were almost 100,000 behind but their quantity became same at the final decade. For all the other four decades, though males were always heavy in numbers but the differences with their counterpart was between 20.000 to 30,000.
