The table shows information about how many people used three major
British airports from 1998 to 2003.
In general, there were upward trends in the number of passengers of
Gatwick and Stansted while Heathrow saw a fluctuation over the period in the
question.
Looking at the details, as regards Gatwick, the figure started at 36.500.000
in 1998, and then went up gradually until 2002. Following this, the number of
users increased sharply and peaked at 69.300.000 in 2003. If we look at Stansted,
the trend was similar. The figure in 1998 was just 17.300.000, which was the
lowest of the three airports in that year. Having grown rapidly in the next three
years, it reached 43.300.000 before remaining stable during the last two years.
With respect to Heathrow, the figure started at 27.200.000. Then, there
was a sharp rise to 48.200.000 in 2000, which meant that its number of travellers
was more than other airports. Following this, it dropped rapidly to 33.200.000
and picked up again at the end of the period.
