The three pie charts below show the percentage of US music album sales by genre in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
The charts compare the sales of US albums by five genres in three successive years, particularly 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Overall, it is clear that the three-year period witnessed little variation in the sales. While rock music was the most universal genre, jazz and country attracted a modest number of listeners.
Looking at the charts more closely, one can see that the majority of listeners were appealed to rock when its sales accounted for 40%, proving to be the most popular genre throughout the period. R&B did not attract as many audiences as the dominant, with the sales only half its counterpart at approximately 22%.
Country was the only genre which saw a steady increase in sales by 5%, but it still ended at 18%, which was a minimal proportion compared to its counterparts. There was relatively no change in the sales of jazz, also the least popular, at modestly 3%. Other alternatives made up 22% of the total album sales.
