The table below compares the data about the amount of money spent on Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in two different years in the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden. In general, sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas accounted for the largest proportion and significantly increased in the United Kingdom and Switzerland in this period.
It could be easily observed from the table that the UK is the country that witnessed went up dramatically in the sales of coffee, from 1.5 to 20 millions of Euros in 2004. Similarly, sales figures of Fairtrade- labelled coffee in Switzerland remarkably increased to 6 million in 2004, taking the second position. In three countries, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden, coffee sales varied from 0.8 to 2 million in Euros in the same period.
In comparison with the data of coffee, those of bananas appeared different in these countries. Switzerland consumed the highest portion of bananas, increasing from 15 to nearly 50 million of Euros. The next position is for the UK, with 5.5 million in 2004. Except for the rise in Belgium, to 4 million, there was a considerable drop in sales of these products, reaching from 0.9 to 1 million in Sweden and Denmark.
