The charts below show the proportions of British students at one university in England who were able to speak other languages in addition to English, in 2000 and 2010. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie charts highlight data about what other languages, apart from English, can be spoken by British students at a university in England in two different years, 2000 and 2010.
Overall, students in this university who could only speak English accounted for the highest proportion in both years, while the number of multilingual students saw a slight increase.
In 2000, English was the only language that three-tenths of the students were able to use. Spanish was the most popular foreign language at that time, as its figure was at 20 percent. Students able to use French and another language both took up 15 percent, while only ten percent could communicate in German. Another one-tenth of the students, however, could use two other languages.
If we look at the year 2010, it can be seen that English was still the dominant language in this university, as over a third of the students there didn't use any other ones. The number of students who spoke French, German and Spanish were equal, at 10 percent each. About 20 percent of the students another language in communication, while those who were multilingual accounted for a lower percentage.
