The line graph depicts the number of grams' spreads used between 1981 and 2007. At first glance, it is evident that the amount of three spread kinds decreased by 2007.
It can be seen from the chart that the most popular spread in 1981 was butter, reaching at just over 140 grams, then growing to 160 grams in 1989. In contrast, consumption of margarine was about 90 grams in 1981, which was lower than butter. This figure continued to fell to 80 grams in 1986. However, in 1991, the amount of butter consumed significantly dropped by 60 grams, at 100 grams. This number was as same as the figure for margarine.
In 1996, low fat and reduced spreads appeared firstly and the amount of consumption of low fat and reduced spreads considerably increased over a period of 5 years, reaching a peak at approximately 80 grams in 2001. By 2007, there was a gradual decrease in both three kinds of spread. Only have 40 grams of low fat and reduced spreads used, while the figures for butter and margarine were about 50 grams and 70 grams respectively.
