The maps below show the centre of a small town called Islip as it is now, and plans for its development.
The given two pictures compare the layout of the central area of a town named Islip as it is now with a proposed design for development.
Overall, one of the most striking changes to the area is expected to be the introduction of a dual carriageway. Also noteworthy is that the plan involves the addition of various facilities.
At the present, there is a main road crossing the town from west to east. However, in the future, it will be converted into a way for walkers only. Accordingly, traffic will be diverted into the proposed divided highway which surrounds the central area of the town.
It is interesting to note that rows of shops are currently positioned along both sides of the arterial road. Nevertheless, the scheme is to demolish shops to the north side to make way for bus station, shopping centre, car park and residential area. Those to the south, meanwhile, will remain unchanged but the town's park will be reduced in size to create more space which will be turned into housing estate. Finally, no changes will be made to the school and the original housing section located in southern Islip.
