The line chart compares the numbers of the UK traveling daily by 3 various means of transports from 1970 to 2030.
Overall, while the number of people who travel by car and train followed an upward trend, the opposite was true for the other. Also, the car was always the most popular mode of transport over the period shown.
In 1970, about 5 million UK commuters traveled on a daily basis by car, while the number of bus and train users were 4 million and 2 million respectively. After remaining almost unchanged in the next 10 years, the total of travelers in all 3 means of transport showed some fluctuation. To be specific, the number of train users rose slightly by 1 million people in 2000. Likewise, there was a dramatic increase to 7 million in the sum of people who use cars. Whereas, the period from 1980 to 2000 witnessed a steady decrease in the number of UK commuters traveling each day by bus.
From 2000 onwards, the number of car and train users both stayed constant. Then, from 2010 to 2020 the sum of car and train travelers experienced an increase of about 1 million. During the same period, the number of bus passengers still showed an upward trend.
In the next ten years, it is predicted that the number of people who drive to work will hit the highest point with 9 million and the number of train passengers witnessed a sharp rise. While the number of train commuters is forecast to decrease gradually to nearly 3 million.
