The main idea of both the passage and the lecture is about Spartacus, a historian militery leader, who is known as a legend in the general public minds and historiacal stories. With this in mind, the author mentions some supportive aspects which helps make Spartacus as a briliant army leader. The lecture, on the contrary, categorically refutes all mentioned parts of evidence and provides details for this rejection.
First, both reading and the listening discuss the idea of Spartacus and his military return to home. In this line of thought, the passage maintains that the original goal of them was to free its militry slaves from Romans in far lands. The lecture, on the other hand, states that this notion is not supported historically and Spartacus in addition to his militry didn't really mean to just come back home. Actual truth is that in the way back to home, they cleared the routh as a opportunity to take revenge and wealth from Roman people. Hence, the stories are not completely true about this notion.
Second, both text and talk put forth the idea of how small was Spartacus militry and even with this content, they continued fighting against powerful Roman army. In this vein, the author believes that even with small, ill-equipped army, Spartacus and his militry didn't left the battlefield and its a briliant point that adds to his works worth as a hero. However, the lecturer points out that at first, as the Spartacus militry was small, the Romans didn't take them serious and sent their poor armies but when the industrious militry went to battle with Spartacus, he defeated and this can be an evidence which shows he was not really a hero.
Thire, both reading and the listening materials talk about how Spartacus became the liberate all Roman slaves. In this regard, the passage states explains that Spartacus sought to liberate all Roman slaveds and thus commanded respect as an early human rights advocate. Conversely, the speaker states that this believe is not supported by history and this story is just made by the leaders of liberty in 18th century. they needed a hero to inspire people to battle for the liberty so they made this story to introduce a legend.
