Rome
Historians are looking for an accurate answer of do Rome’s military, the power of its leaders, and it’s prosperity really make it a successful country. According to the passage, they are the key reasons that make Rome flourish. But the lecture proves that they also let Rome face doom while helping it to be affluent and powerful.
The lecture states that a mighty military may benefits or help to protect Rome, but it also damage Rome, which is partially opposite to the statement in passage. The soldiers were actually not all from Rome; most of them were from the enemy country that they overcome. So people couldn’t depend on them, because sometime they are not loyal; they may can be treacherous. Some time they will turn against Rome.
Contrary to great power can make Rome successful in the passage, the lecture confirms that it has also harm Rome when also helping Rome years ago . Emperors right now may make poor decisions, which can cause Rome to lose conquered places, and it can hurt it. ( Poor decisions include things like building palaces other than administrating the country. ) Since the emperor had so much power, it was impossible to let other people to give suggestions at that time.
After confirming the first two thoughts wrong, the lecture begin to challenge the last one is not totally right. Although wealth had made Rome thrive, it also hurt Rome. As time past, the taxes became higher and higher. Emperors were getting new farmlands. In order to farm in the places, they ought to pay taxes. Then, the wealth stopped growing for residents; emperors were becoming wealthier. Gradually, citizens were having a mutiny. They even asked help from Rome’s foes.
