The chart and table provide data about cars registered in one country over a period of time.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The two charts show some information about the change in gas prices, the number of new car registrations, and car types during the 12-year period from 2003. Overall, the petrol price witnessed its considerable fluctuation, which happened at the same time as car registrations. In addition, petrol-based cars dimished, while diesel-based and hybrid-based ones generally climbed up.
At the beginning of the period, the gas price was recorded at just 0.8 pounds per litre. The price kept rising before reaching its peak at roughly 1.4 pounds per litre in 2011 and falling to about just 1.1 pounds per litre at the end of the period. In contrast with the petrol price, the number of new registered cars gradually declined during the period, since approximately 9.1% of new cars were registered in 2003 before reaching its lowest rate at almost 6.2% and rising to about 8% at the end of the period.
The rate of small cars registered during the period seemed to increase from roughly 5.2% to 6.2%. People appeared to switch from petrol-engined cars to diesel-engined and hybrid-engined ones, since the proportion of petrol-engined cars reduced from almost 83% to over three-fifths. Diesel-powered cars increased in popularity from nearly 16.8% to less than two-fifths, followed by the slight rise of hybrid-based cars.
