The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie charts give information about the water usage for industrial, agricultural and domestic purposes in six distinct areas, namely North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia.
It is noticeable that more water is consumed by industry than by agriculture or households in North America and Europe. By contrast, agriculture accounts for the vast majority of water used in those 4 remaining areas.
In North America and Europe, industrial water consumption accounts for 48% and 53% of total water usage. By contrast, merely 10%, 7%, 5% and 12% of the water used of South America, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia go to industry respectively. The opposite trend can be seen when we look at water consumption for agriculture. This accounts for a massive of more than two thirds of the water usage in South America, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia, but only 39% and 32% of the water used in the other two areas.
Such dramatic differences are not seen when we compare the figures for household's water usage. The proportion of water, which is higher than 10%, belongs to North America (13%), South America (19%) and Europe (15%). Moreover, the same proportion of water is recorded in Central Asia and South East Asia (7%), while the figure for Africa is 2% higher, at 9%.
