golden rice
Both authors of the passage and the lecturer speak about golden rice. Their opinions on golden rice conflict with each other. The author supports the use of golden rice as a prevention for Vitamin A deficiency whereas the lecturer rebukes saying golden rice could not be as necessary as other foods.
First, The author supports the use of golden rice as it has more health benefits than normal rice as contains Vitamin A. The author supports his previous statement by saying that gold rice could help solve issues of malnutrition in areas where it is common and effectively address this problem. The lecturer refutes this statement. He tells that golden rice lack other nutrients that a child requires and can only provide 10% of the Vitamin A requirements of a child. The lecturer also adds these nutrients could be easily added to a child's nutrition by eating leafy green vegetables or mangoes and do not require golden rice to solve it.
The author concludes that by introducing golden rice into the areas where rice is already taken in daily, it could become part of a normal diet. However, The lecturer concludes the issue of malnutrition is not only of the food they take in but also includes deeper issues in the societies they live in like Public Health, Sanitation, economic power, etc...
