The chart illustrates the amount of wasted disposed of by three methods: landfills, burning and dumping at sea in a European country in 4 years from 2005 to 2008.

Overall, landfilling was generally the most favored way of disposal but at the end of the peroid it was outnumbered by burning to become the most used method. In addition, while the amount of waste went into landfills decreased, the opposite trend was true for that which was burnt.

About 1800 tonnes of waste were buried in landfills in 2005, with a subsequent considerable decrease to 1200 tonnes in 2006 and the figure kept declining gradually until the end of the period in 2008, which was half of it two years ago. In contrast, the figures for wasted burnt rosed from 500 tons in 2005 to under 700 tonnes in 2007 and kept increasing to reah the peak in 2008, which were approximately 300 tons more than those which were landfilled.

Besides, the figure for waste dumped at the sea stay consistently in the first three years with 600 tones and then experienced a slight decrease to just under 600 tones in 2008.
