The chart below compares the percentage of time Australian mothers and fathers spent helping their children with four activities in 2013.
The bar chart shows the proportion of time Australian parents spent with their children in 4 activities in 2013. Overall, it takes the most time for mothers to dress for their children while fathers spend most of their time playing video games. Both fathers and mothers helping children seemed to be unpopular.
In terms of dressing, mothers spent 70% of their time while it was only 20% for fathers. the percentage of time that mothers helped children do homework decreased slightly to 60%, and those for fathers increased to 30%. Children hardly change their clothes and do homework with both parents, the figures for both of them were just around 10%.
There was a significant decline in the proportion of time that Australian mothers spent playing games with children, just accounting for about 20% of their time, that figure for fathers went up considerably, increasing by 30% compared to those doing homework. Regarding preparing children’s beds, the figure for fathers and mothers were nearly the same, making up 43% and 45% respectively. In addition, the proportion of time that children spent with both mothers and fathers was the least in all 4 activities, not accounting for more than 10%.
