The reading and lecture are both about the paradox of choices which means people have numerous option to opt and this phenomena likely to make people indecisive. The author of the reading states that having multitude of options benefits the people. The lecturer disagrees. He mentions the disadvantages of prevailing choices and attacks each of the claims made in the article.
Firstly, the author begins by stating that too amny choices be it in choosing goods, services, job or destination can fulfill peorson’s needs and demand. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that offering numerous options make person exhausted since they have to invest time on selecting the best of all. In addition, availability of various choices makes person less productive as well.
Secondly, multifarious options in business provide aid in their progress as there are many alternatives from which one can choose the good one. Similarly, this compel companies to provide new goods and services to public so that people can choose the best alternatives. The speaker on other hand points out that although presenting numerous option can lure customer, after certain period owing this, company are suceptible to be produce low quality products. Moreover, they become less productive.
Finally, the reading passage notes that availability of choices assist in personal growth and development of people as they can be educated about wide range of products out there. Furthermore they become self aware and be able to take self decision. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that having more choices makes people lazy. They neglect to seek the possible other alternatives which eventually lead them to get stuck in change.
As we can see the author and the lecturer have conflicting views on more options available today. The speaker effectively challenges the writer’s claim.
