Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the specific points made in the reading passage
The reading and lecture are both about the Machu Picchu located in the mountains of Peru. The author of the reading states the purposes of construction of Mchu Picchu. The lecturer disagrees. He mentions that although it was fascinating there are flaws pertaing to it and attacks each of the claim made in the article.
First, the author of the reading states that in the captivating location of Machu Picchu led to the building of royal state there. In addition, whoever people who came to visit empire used to be attracted by thye wealth and power of emperor. The professor believes there are flaws in the writer’s position. He contends that royal empire used to be far from the location of Machu Picchu. Furthermore, the residence there was for temporary period of time as it would create difficulty for people who desire to be close with political and admnistrative center.
Second, according to the reading the site was inhabited by religious Inca people therefore it was eminent for religious and ceremonial purpose. Additionally, religious temples , intricate cravings and so on shows the evidence to be the site religious. The speaker on other hand points out that there was no evidence of performing religious cerenony there. In addition, religious artifacts, temples and shrines could be seen in other side of Inca instead.
Finally, the reading passage also notes that the site was perfect place for military defense since it was above the hill nobody could access easily. The professor rebuts this argument. He puts forth the idea that the place was known rather for millitary training. Even though few weapons and tools were found there, those were easily found in other places too. Therefore, the site does not seem to be the used for defensive purpose.
As we can see, the author and lecturer holds conflicting views on Machu Picchu. The speaker effectively challenges the writer’s argument.
