The given bar chart illustrates interviewees’ opinions on the reasons for offense.
Overall, what stands out from the chart is that while the highest percentage of responses has identified that family upbringing is the main source of law-breaking activities, poor housing is at the bottom of the list.
With regard to the ‘personal disadvantages’ group, family upbringing is accused of being the cause of illegal activities with over 90%, followed by poverty at around 65%, which doubled boredom and tripled poor housing (approximately 20%). Beside that, drug addiction ranked third with nearly 45% and working parents at about 35%, half as much again as the figure for poor housing.
Regarding the ‘societal influences’ group, the highest proportion is lack of school discipline with 80%, tripled the group of lack of education and lack of facilities (approximately 25%). The second position is taken by peer group pressure with 70%, followed by unemployment with around 60%.
