The lecturer disagrees with experts opinions about the ways to avoid that the Torreya taxifolia became extint. There are the following three reasons.
First, the lecturer states that the climate changes and the global warming have modified the microclimate in the Northern Florida's. Experts consider this region microclimate suitable for Torreya growth and development. However, the lecturer explains that the higher temperatures have caused the once damped areas to became drained now.
Second, it is stated in the lecture that assisted migration, that means to move Torreya to a more suitable place, can cause an undesirable consequence. The lecturer gives the example of another plant species that was realocated to a completely different location distant from its original climate, but the assisted migration ended causing the death of the native species. Therefore, such attitude can cause a great disturbance and negative impacts in the whole local environment.
Third, the lecturer disagrees that preserve Torreya in research centers cold be a successful option. According to the lecturer, in a research center there is no large Torreya population and variety. Thus, they would not be able to survive diseases. Dispate the closest monitorement in these areas.
To sum up, the lecturer has different points of view when comparing to the experts opinions on the topics about saving Torreyas from become extint.
