A great number of teenagers have recently spent more time following online videos on Facebook, Tiktok, Youtube and other online platforms. Some people say that young people may be greatly affected by these videos. What do you think of the effects of online videos on teenagers?
Nowadays, without a shadow of a doubt, the videos on Facebook, Youtube, Tiktok and other online platforms have become a popular trend among teenagers. I believe that the videos on those platforms have both positive and adverse impacts on teenagers for the following reasons.
On the bright side, online platforms can provide teenagers with entertaining videos after stressful hours at school. These videos can also bring teenagers a vast amount of knowledge ranging from science, technology to the most basic life skills. Also, they can inspite teens with new hobbies and interests such as cooking, making crafts, doing DIY, etc. What’s more, teenagers will also be kept posted about national and international events. For example, during the coronavirus crisis, by watching news reports on Facebook, teenagers can know about the number of cases that are identified positive in their country as well as precations to protect themselves and their families.
On the other hand, the videos on Facebook, Youtube, Tiktok can negatively affect teens’ behaviour. As they do not have adequate knowledge and experiences, teenagers can easily be lured by videos that contain bad content such as violence, crime, sex and social evils, which can ruin their future door. Apart from these, these videos can be addictive. As aformentioned, the videos on online platform are a great source of entertainment, so teenagers may be too immersed in the virtual world that they will lack face-to-face interaction with others and neglect their studies.
To recaptulate, the videos on online plateforms have both postive and negative impacts on teenagers. Therefore, it is important that parents take control over the time teens spent on thse videos and teens should also be alert when using these.
