The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.
The line graph illustrate the percentage of population aged 65 and over in japan, Sweden and USA from the 1940 to 2040.
Overall, the population of older people will increase sharply throughout the period. Initially, japan had the lowest percentage of population and it will be highest than USA and Sweden at the end of the period.
According to the graph, in 1940 the number of older people lived in USA and Sweden was about 9% and 7% respectively. People who are 65 and over was gradually increased in USA was 15% in 1980. The percentage of older people was almost same until 2020 and then it rose to almost 23% in 2040. On the other hand, in Sweden the number of older people was steadily increased and it exceeding USA to 15% in 2000. After 2000it continually increase to reaches almost25% in 2040and it will be higher than USA.
In 1940, the proportion of older people in japan was 5% which was the lowest number of people among three countries. It decline to almost 3% in 1980 and then it increased to 5% in 2000 which was same at beginning of the period. During 2000-2030 it rise to 10% and then it will dramatically increase to over 25% in 2040 which will be higher than other two countries.
