The table provides information about the total number of male and female employees and industries in England and Wales between 1851 to 1901.
Overall, in England and Wales the number of male employees was higher than the female employees in every decade, except in 1861. The total number of factories had fluctuated over the period given.
In 1851, the total employees were 477,100 in England and Wales where 287,100 were male and 190,100 was female which was far higher than the other decade. However, the number of male employees dramatically declined and reached to 31,000 at the end of the period. Similarly, the female employees steadily drop to 30,000 in 1901, which was six times lower compared to 1851.
In 1851, the numbers of factories were 225 which were continually increased in the first ten years. Then, the number of factories went down in 1891 and the figure reached to 600 at the end of the period.
