The two tables provided reveal the sales situation of Fair trade included coffee and bananas among 5 European countries in 1999 and 2004.
It is evident that the sales of bananas are far more exceeded than that of coffee, especially Switzerland people who consumed the most bananas than the other countries while UK preferred to consume more coffee than the other. Moreover, the sales of those two commodities saw a growth in over 5 years, except Sweden and Denmark, whose sales on bananas had a downward trend.
As of coffee sales, UK had a sharp rise with 20 million euros, which was about 13 times in 2004 compared to 1999. Similarly, Switzerland also doubled its coffee sales from 3 to 6 millions euros from 1999 to 2004. Denmark, Belgium and Sweden saw a less significant upward trend.
As of bananas sales, Switzerland got the highest rank in the given table, accounted for 15 millions euros in 1999 and in 2004, its consumed quantities were tripled. By contrast, the other countries’ sales figures on bananas were not much noticeable, less than 6 million euros altogether in 1999 and not even exceeding 12 millions euros after 200. More interestingly, while the three other countries had an increase in sales figures of bananas, Sweden and Denmark saw a plunge by 80% and 50% respectively.
