The line chart illustrates average carbon dioxide (CO2) produced per person in four countries (United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal) over the 30 years (1967 to 2007). Units were measured in CO2 emissions in metric tonnes.
Overall, the trend of CO2 emissions in United Kingdom and Sweden decreased over the period given, while there was an increase in the Co2 emissions in Italy and Portugal. The British produced the most CO2, Portugal, on the other hand, emitted the least CO2 per person.
The CO2 emissions in United Kingdom decreased gradually from approximately 11 metric tones in 1967 to about 9 metric tones in 2007. In addition, the amounts of CO2 emission in Sweden went up sharply, peaked at 10 metric tonnes in 1977 and then decreased to 5 metric tonnes in 2007.
Italy and Portugal are the two countries which experienced CO2 emissions going up throughout the period given. The amount of CO2 emissions started at 1 metric tonne in Portugal and then increased all the all to the peak at 5 metric tonnes. Likewise, the CO2 emissions trend in Italy began at 4 metric tonnes and slowly went up to about 8 in 2007.
