The graph below gives information about car ownership in Britain from 1971 to 2007

The line chart illustrates the changes in car ownership in Britain between 1971 and 2007

Overall, the proportion of households using car increased over the period shown. Interestingly, despite the opposite trends of others, one car owners’ rate seemed to remain unchanged in almost time of over three decades surveyed.

In the year 1971, there was nearly a half of British households having no regular use of car. The figure for one-car ownership was somewhere slightly lower, at about 45%. In that year, it was uncommon for people to own two car or more with around 8% and just approximately 1% of households falling into two types of these categories, respectively.

Over the period of 36 years, there was a dramatic decrease in the proportion of no car families to end the period at around 25%. In contrast, two cars users experienced an opposite trend to increase continuously, reaching around 27% of population in the year 2007. Britain seemed to remain the percentage of one car users in this period as the same as the beginning year, but three or more cars ownership was many time multiple its’ figure to nearly 8% in the ending year.
