The given table demonstrates the shift of British vehicles preference by comparing the average distance in miles travelled per person per year in 1985 and 2000.
overall, it is immediately clear that car was always the most favourable modes of transportation in both years while taxi was the least prefered vehicle.
To begin with, it is noticable that car use was the primary way of transportation for english commuters in these years with the figure of approx 3200 miles of average in 2000. On the other hand, taxi used was the least common mode of carriers, although the travelling distance of it was increase over three times than that of 1985, it was still negligible.
According to the table, walking and biking saw no significant alteration in data but a slightly decrease brought bicycle to the bottom of preference in 2000. Besides, local bus saw a plummet in statistic with approx 145 miles decreased in average. In contrast, train and long distance bus usage became a lot more popular as both of these modes of commuting hiked in 2000. However, long distance bus was still far less than that of local bus in 2000.
In summary, english travellers' overall average distance went up from about 4750 to approx 6500 over 15 years. In addition, car usage remained to be the major mode of transportation.
