The diagram below show how glass containers, such as bottles, are produced and recycled.
The diagram illustrates the production of glass containers, such as bottles, and the process used to recycle them. Overall, the production system consists of 4 passages, while the recycling one uses 5 steps to create new glass products.
In regard to how glass is produced, 3 products (sand, soda ash, and limestone) are mixed together with other chemicals. Then, this mixture is melted inside of a glass furnace that burns at approximately 15000°C to get the molten glass. The molten glass does not have a shape, so, next, it is blown to give it a specific shape. Finally, glass containers are ready to be sold and used in everyday life.
When it comes to glass recycling though, the process is slightly different. In the first step, used containers are collected and then sorted by color by a machine. Afterward, all bottles and other containers are washed to remove impurities and other organic residues. The glass gets crushed and then sent to be melted inside the appropriate furnace, likewise during production. Ultimately, the recycled glass is molded into new pieces of glass furniture, bottles and containers.
