genetic modification
Nowadays genetic modification is prevalent in each field such as trees’ improvement. The reading claims that it can be useful and good to use this method and believe that it’s possible to create trees that can be more useful for us and give three reasons for this. however, the lecturer finds all ideas dubious and present some evidence to refute them all.
The author argues that the trees that are genetically modified, can be design to be hardier than organic trees. so we can replace natural trees with genetically modified trees and they can resist in many fields of disaster. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that trees that are genetically modified can only resist in some field of nature attack and they are uniform. so if a specific unknown illness or somewhat that they are not modified for that , attack to these trees, they can not oppose and will destroy.
Furthermore, the reading passage hold the view that genetically modified trees can be more suitable and give more benefit for us, specially in cost. because we can change them genetically that their need to water decrease but their fruits or other things increase. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that if you use the genetically modified trees , you should probably pay more money. because the company that create and breed them, would catch you money for them and always they have stock of your trees’ fruits.
finally, the reading asserts that in some places that usually trees’ wood use as a heat source and building material and etc. we are unable to compensate this overexploitation because of inequality in speed of planting and harvesting. so if we use genetically modified tress we can use trees that grow faster and can recovery in less time. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to fact that the genetically modified trees grow more aggressive than natural one and usually we plant them among natural trees. so they use more resources such as water and finally can overcome natural trees and cause extinction in natural trees in a specific place.
