Based on the given materials, the article as the lecture discusses about the evidences of the ability of long distances traveling of humpback whales for feeding and mating purposes. The author states that they can navigate by the stars just like early human sailors. That being said the lecturer thought it was fascinating theory. Nevertheless, the reasons were not convincing.
Initially, the author says that humpback whales seem to be intelligent enough to use stars to navigate by. As the sight of lecturer, navigating by stars and brain intelligence have not any real connection. For instance, as the lecturer said, some other animals, like ducks can use stars for navigation. Albeit, the ducks have normal average of intelligence between animals. Beacuse of this reasons the ability of navigating by stars just inherent between animals and does not have any connection with their intelligence.
Second, the writer proclaims that humpback whales migrate in straight lines and by the lack of external objects, they cannot rely on land features; however, the could rely on stars at night. Yet again, the speaker underscores that these animals who travel in straight line by using earth magnetic power and the organism in their brains which plays a role like a reciever. The whales have the oragnism either. They rely on the sensitivity of organism rather than stars for orientation.
The final point of contention between the reading and listening passage is spy-hopping. It is unsual behavior that they are sometimes observed floating straight up as tought they were looking upward. The author thinks this unsual behavior is for chasing the stars and find the way. On the other hand, the speaker explains that it is just a pure speculation since couple of reasons. First, other marines like sharks even do this rare behavior to find the prey. Second, They cannot see the stars during the day.
