The diagram illustrates how electricity is produced in geothermal power plant. It can be observed that geothermal electric power generation process consist of five major process, namely, cold water storage, the injection well, the production well, condenser and electric generator.
In the first process, cold water is stored in a large storage tank constructed on the ground while this cold water is pumped down to 4.5 km beneath the ground to the injection well. The cold water then passed through Geothermal zone called hot rocks, which boils the water. This hot water is accumulated in the production well, and thereafter pumped up to the condenser.
The condenser stores the hot steam, which is passed through a narrow opening to the turbine forcing the turbine to spine. When the action of the turbine rotates the generator that generate the necessary electricity, the produced electricity is transfer to various location using power grid for various usages.
