The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.
The tables provide data on coffee and banana sales in five countries in Europe in two separate years 1999 and 2004.
Overall, it can be seen that the sales of coffee increased most in the Uk. However, banana sales were highest in Switzerland in both years.
Looking at the first table in more detail, it is clear that the amount of coffee which was sold in the UK increased from 1.5M euros in 1999 to 20M euros in 2004, which was the largest increase in all countries. The sales of coffee experienced a two-fold increase to 6M euros in 2004 for Switzerland. On the other hand, there was a slight increase in coffee sales for Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden. Coffee sales in both Denmark and Belgium increased by just 0.2M euros.
Turning to the second table, it is evident that sales of banana grew from 15M euros in 1999 to 47M euros in 2004 in Switzerland. Similarly, Banana sales increased by 4.5M euros in the UK over the period whereas it increased by 3.4M euros for Belgium. In contrast, there was a slight downfall in banana sales in Sweden and Denmark. This figure decreased from 1.8M euros to 1M euros in Sweden and in Denmark, it shrank from 2M euros to 0.9M euros in the whole period.
