The bar chart compares and contrasts data on the figure for female students per 100 male students attending three levels of formal education in both of developing and developed countries during the eight-year period from 1990.
Overall, the number of girls per 100 boys who went to formal education in both developed and developing countries increased variably. However, in developing countries, when the level of education got higher, the less number of girls attended formal educational institution.
In 1990, among 100 male students who went to elementary school in developing countries, there were 83 female students who pursued their primary education. This figure increased slightly eight years later which rose by four female students. However, while the number of girls who went to secondary school in developing nations increased from 72 to 82 students in 1998, the figure for girls who went to university was less than 80 compared to the number of female students in both primary and secondary education. Approximately, the figures for girls attending formal education in developing countries were still below the target.
In contrast, in developed nations, among 100 boys, more than 90 girls went to primary and secondary education in 1990. This figure remained constant in the final year which reached slightly under 100 female students per 100 male students. Meanwhile, the number of girls among 100 boys who pursued their higher education went beyond the target since 1990, increasing slightly by approximately 6% in the final year.
