The graph below shows the percentage of immigrants to Australia from countries in 1962,1982 and 2002.
A glance at the bar chart given reveals the proportion of persons coming from five countries to Australia for living in 40 years, from 1962 to 2002. These countries were the UK, New Zealand, India, Vietnam, and Italy.
Overall, there was a mixed trend in these five countries. And the total number of immigrants from these countries in 2002 was lower than that in 1962.
In 1962, the highest figure for migrants in Australia was occupied by Italy, at 40%. This percentage was four times as high as the percentage of English and Vietnamese people living in Australia. This year, the proportion of residents immigrating from New Zealand accounted for approximately 8% of the total number of immigrants. And the number of Indian migrants just took up a tiny fraction.
In 1982, the data of Italian residents in Australia halved, becoming the second-largest number after Vietnam and then was followed by a 5% decrease in the next 20 years. The statistic of Vietnamese people moving to Australia hit a peak of 25% in 1982 and also witnessed a moderate fall of 12% afterward. The percentage of immigrants from the UK and India showed a similar trend with Vietnam, peaking in 1982 and reaching to 12% and 14% respectively in 2002. The number of migrants in Australia traveling from New Zealand dropped by 2% every 20 years, becoming the lowest percentage in 2002.
