The diagrams below show the water supply system in Australia present and in future.
The two diagrams compare how water is supplied by the system in Australia nowadays and in later life.
Overall, while the number of parts of the water supply system has stayed constant, such as a dam, water treatment plant, and consumers, its route has changed. In addition, these days, a river takes part in this system, however, it will not in the future.
As can be seen from the first diagram, firstly, water which is stored in a dam or storage is divided into two kinds, waste water flows to the water treatment plants, and pure water is transported to residential, industrial, and commercial places. Then, after being used in the aforementioned places, the waste is transferred back to the water treatment plants and the storm water is dumped into the nearby river.
Regarding the second diagram, pure water will move from not only the dam or the storage but also the water treatment plants to people for using. Afterwards, storm and waste water after consuming will be pumped to the water treatment plants, rather than going straight into the river like it is in present. Next, they will be cycled to reuse in the city.
