The chart below shows the changes in car ownership in Great Britain between 1961 and 2001.

The line graph illustrates the proportion of car domestic ownership of UK's families from 1961 to 2001.
During the period of 40 years, cars were one of the popular items in each household as more families owned cars.
To be specific, in the 1960s, nearly 65% of the British households have no car, while around 35% of that purchase a car, and no families owned two cars or more than that. The proportion changed unexpectedly in the next 20 years, with a dramatic drop in the percentage of British families who have no car at all, to 35%. On the contrary, the percentage of households who purchase one car increased significantly to 50%. That percentage of households who owned two cars or more also rose by 15%. However, in 2001, less than 30% families have no car in the house, whereas the proportion of families owned two car or more was experienced a sharp grow, which was almost 30%. Families with a car in the house was still the majority although this percentage decreased slightly by 5%.
