Process of Geothermal Energy
The process of generating geothermal energy is illustrated by the diagram shown below. How electricity is generated into this power plant can be separated in five different sections.
Power plant is divided with respect to ground surface into two parts, above ground and under ground. First of all, cold water is stored into one tank above ground. The two wells which are used for pumping water are dug up to 4.5 km in depth. First well connected to cold water tank is called "The injection well", in which cold water is pumped down. After 4.5 km in earth surface there are hot rocks, those are called "Geothermal zone", which is hot due to magma of the earth. The passing cold water will become hot in this zone.
Secondly, now, through "The production well" hot water collected at the end of well is drawn up by pumping system and led to condenser. The condenser will give this hot water more heat and eventually water evaporates and turn into steam. The last section of power plant contains turbine and generator, which are both connected, so whenever turbine is turning due to steam it turns the coil into generator and produce electricity. This electricity can transferred through towers in the different areas.
Overall, the process of geothermal electricity is quite difficult to achieve, as it requires 4.5 km depth of wells.
