The reading and listening are about the pros and cons of the using Amtrak train service in United state. The author present some arguments due to which Amtrak train should be sold to private owned company. The lecturer disagree with this and challenges each of the author's point.
Firstly the author suggested that Government loses its money on Amtrak because of less populated area, not enough passengers are using this service, which not even able to cover its maintenance cost. However, the professor claims that Amtrak is a non profitable service just to provide efficient transport service to people.
Additionally, the author notes that Amtrak government’s ownership become unfair to other private airline's transportation companies. But the professor rebuts this argument by saying that with else Amtrak government also pay for the air-traffic tower and weather department in order to provide help to private airline companies. Also, without government help private companies would not exist.
Finally, the author posits that government should spend its money on majority used transport instead of Amtrak train which is only used by less than 1 percent of people. The professor disagree with that and suggest that government should invest money on the improvement on Amtrak outdated service more people will prefer to use a fast service Amtrak train instead of their private vehicles.
