The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.
The given charts provide information about annual sales of two items, namely coffee and banana, in the years 1999 and 2004 in five different nations in Europe.
In general terms, it can be clearly seen that the largest amount of money was generated by selling coffee in the UK, whereas the smallest was produced by selling bananas in Sweden throughout the period shown.
Looking at the first chart in more detail, in 1999, Switzerland earned 3 million euros by selling coffee, and Denmark made 1.8 million euros. Meanwhile, the figures for the remaining nations ranged from 0.8 to 1.5 million euros. By 2004, the amount of money produced by coffee sales in the UK had risen rapidly from 1.5 to 20 million euros. In addition, that of money generated in Switzerland had grown twofold. In the meantime, sales of coffee in the remaining nations remained nearly stable.
Turning to the second chart more closely, in 1999, bananas' sales in Switzerland as well as Denmark were at 15 and 2 million euros respectively. Furthermore, money earned from selling bananas in Sweden and the UK stood at 1.8 and 1 million euros each. Between 1999 and 2004, there was a dramatic increase in the amounts of money acquired from selling bananas in the UK, Switzerland, and Belgium from 15, 1, and 0.6 million euros of 32, 4.5, and 3.4 million euros respectively. However, the figures for Sweden and Denmark approximately had halved.
