The table shows the area of land covered by woods in six different continents of the world in millions of hectares in three years of 1990, 2000 and 2005.
As can be seen clearly from the table, there were unequal changes in total forest area among the six places. While Europe and Asia had an increasing trend, other parts of the world witnessed a counter tendency throughout the shown period.
In 1990, Europe was the continent with the largest forest-covered area at 989 million hectares and it successfully kept the top rank 15 years later at 1001 million hectares. Oceania held the most modest area of jungle, 199 million hectares in 1990, this number fell gradually by 2 million hectares to 197 million hectares in 2005.
The period of 1990 and 2005 experienced a considerable loss of woods area in South America, from 946 million hectares to 882 million hectares. Asia, despite the drop of 6 million hectares of forest in the first 10 years of the period, rose dramatically by 14 million hectares only 5 years later.
