The presented bar chart illustrates the comparison of the employment rates between male and female in six countries including Australia, Switzerland, Iceland, the UK, New Zealand and the USA, for two years 1995 and 2005.
A glance at the graphs reveals that men's employment ratio in all given countries was higher than women and those figures in Switzerland and Iceland were quite greater than the other four countries.
In 1995, the two highest employment rates of males were Iceland with roughly 70% and in Switzerland with about 65%. The proportion was precisely 60% in New Zealand whereas there was around 59% in the USA. Meanwhile, the numbers in Australia and the UK were approximately 55%. At the same time, this ratio of females was comparatively lower in New Zealand and Australia, just around 25% to 27%. In this year, Switzerland had the largest number of employed women, which was 56%.
Next 10 years, the percentage in the workforce surged at both rates of men and women. The male ratio in Iceland was still the highest over six countries with about 83% while the lowest was in Australia, a little less than 70%. The proportion in Switzerland at just under 68% was the highest for female rate when the lowest was in Australia with approximately 39%. Nevertheless, the number of men who had the occupation always surpassed this figure of women over the period.
