In this set of materials, both the reading and the lecturer discuss maintaining humans on the Venus surface. Although the passage provides three theories against being human on Venus, the speaker refutes all of the arguments described in this report.
To start off, the passage points out that the atmospheric pressure at Venus' surface is 90 times greater than the earth's pressure, so all spacecraft have been crashed by Venus surface. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that people can establish a station above Venus' surface. They would make a floating station about 50 kilometres above it. In this elevation, the atmospheric pressure at Venus' surface is equal to the earth. Hence, the spacecraft has not been crashed to it.
Going through the next approach, the reading passage states that Venus' surface does not have reservoirs of water and oxygen; hence, people should bring these components with themselves. However, the professor argues that people can produce water and oxygen on the Venus surface. He adds that Venus surface has special components like carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid, which people would use some chemical process to produce water and oxygen.
Finally, although the passage says that Venus has thick clouds in the atmosphere, so the sunlight does not reach the surface; therefore, the lack of light would prevent to use it for producing electricity, the speaker disagrees by mentioning that the spacecraft will land on the floating station. And, in this elevation, the cloud is less dense than the surface. So, the sunlight reaches the spacecraft. Moreover, the clouds reflect the sunlight that the spacecraft can collect, and make more electricity more than their use.
