The pie charts illustrate the distribution proportion of global forest and also the percentage of timber in five different continents, namely South America, Africa, Asia, Europe and North America.
Overall, North America accounted for the highest proportions of both forest and timber production. It is also clear that Africa, despite having the largest forest cover among the five given continents, produced the smallest amount of timber.
In terms of the first pie chart, Africa constituted 27% of the total global forest, making itself the most thickly forested region. North America occupies around 25%, and the forest cover rates of Europe, South America and Asia were somewhat less, with the figures amounting to 18%, 16% and 14% respectively.
As regards the second pie chart, North America produced the most timber at around 30%, which was followed by South America (23%), Europe (20%) and Asia (18%). Meanwhile, Africa’s timber production occupied a negligible 9%, ranking last among the given regions.
