The use of corporal punishment (physically hitting students) in schools is in decline, yet it should be used to improve behaviour.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
In this day and age, the presence of corporal punishment in schools is not as frequent as before, in which opinions diverge on whether schools should take advantage of applying this form of penalty on students to control their conduct. Although some fervently advocate this sentiment, I am at loggerheads owing to a handful of rational reasons.
Admittedly, serious physical and psychological hurts are attributed to corporal punishment application in formal schooling. To be more accurate, serious injuries, including severe muscle harm, extensive bruising and even worstly damaged internal organs or brain, are potential repercussions of this violent practice. Additionally, whips leave long-term psychology obsessions in lieu of lessons. An invisible fear is able to be formed vaguely in a student's memory to hinder them from repeating inappropriate behaviors, which is an association of the teacher’s presence who fines them. However, it does not signify that children themselves decide what to do relying on comprehending the moral aspect of their behaviours. This suggests that instead of guiding pupils to be aware of good characters as a part of educational mission, physical hitting in schools just only turns them to “conditional reaction creatures”.
Further and even more prominently, corporal punishment in schools is likely to receive abominable criticism from media and parents, which exerts an adverse effect on the educational system’s reputation. First, formidable censure from overprotective parents is unavoidable when they witness their kids being hit. Moreover, numerous adults could not suppress their anger and therefore, become overaggressive, which leads to serious responses like insults and even assaults to their children’s teachers. Second, the overwhelming of social media popularity gives corporal punishment a relatively dirty look. This can be explained by the fact that, regardless of teaching purpose as well as mild physical impacts, corporal punishment to some extent under media perspective is likely to be overexaggerated and distorted with the aim of attracting views from audiences. Therefore, schools and the education system have to suffer from abysmal public’s criticism. As a result, the relationship between parents and schools as well as the education image might be destroyed heavily.
By way of conclusion, notwithstanding the temporary advantage, I ascertain that the physical punishment should be radically eliminated out of schools.
