The graph below gives information about U.S. government spending on research between 1980 and 2008
The line graph displays information on the amount of money that U.S authorities spent on research related to health, space, energy, general science, and other areas between 1980 and 2008.
As can be seen from the graph, government spending on healthcare in the United States recorded a tremendous increase over the period shown, while the other three subjects including astronomy, energy studies, and scientific fields climbed marginally. On the contrary, U.S authority expenditure on other domains saw a significant drop in 2008.
In 1980, it is explicitly observed that the United States invested the greatest deal of money into medicine, following it respectively are other categories in the second-highest, universe and power studies stood in the third and fourth, and finally, scientific majors got the least funds from U.S. authorities. However, within a period of 20 years, whereas the money that other fields received from the government sank to the lowest at 5 billion in 2008, the figure for health studies rocketed to a peak at somewhere between 20 and 25 billion dollars, before slipping back to approximately 17 billion.
As for the other domains, particularly research on the cosmos, power resources, and science, they all witnessed overall upward trends. To be more precise, astronomy and general science rose steadily, while the figure for energy remained stable for most of 28 years, however, it experienced a partial growth between 1992 and 2000 before surging to 8 billion dollars.
