The line graph shows the global demand of different types of textile from 1980 to 2015.
The line chart given illustrates total textile demand over the world between 1980 and 2015.
Overall, polyester experienced the most significant change over the period given. It is worth noting that the figures for polyester, cotton and cellulosic fluctuated in an increasing trend, while the opposite was true for wool.
In 1980, the demand for cotton was nearly 15 million tons, which was around triple that of polyester. Then, the figure of cotton fluctuated from 1980 to 2002 and generally rose by around 8 million tons. Similarly, the total polyester demand underwent a fluctuation in an increasing trend to about 32 million tons in 2000. After that, while the figure of cotton wet=nt up gradually to 32 million tons in 2015, that of polyester rose dramatically and reached a peak of approximately 70 million tons the same year.
Regarding the remaining types of textile, the demand for cellulosic and wool were almost the same at about 3 million tons in 1980. From this year to 1990, there was almost no change in both figures. After falling marginally, the demand for cellulosic increased slowly by 7 million tons between 1990 and 2015. In contrast, the figure of wool rose insignificantly before decreasing gradually to nearly 1 million tons in 2015.
