The bar charts given illustrate different purposes of Internet users in Australia, also the proportion of people using it that was based on intentions and age groups in two separate years, 2011 and 2012.
Overall, most people used the Internet to send and receive emails. It is worth noting that the purposes of paying bills online and emailing shared the same percentage by users’ age.
When it comes to the intentions of users, around 72% of people surfed the Internet to view and send emails, followed by the proportion of users making transactions online, at nearly 52%. Meanwhile, the figure for enjoying social media was the smallest, about 46%.
Regarding the percentage based on age brackets, almost all users whose age ranged from 18 to 25 surfed the Internet for social networking sites, while the figure for people being more than 65 years old was much less, just nearly 30%. In contrast, around 80% of people in the age group above 65 used the Internet for paying invoices online or emailings. Meanwhile, the proportion of users who were 18 to 25 years old was about 60% for each purpose. The figures of people in the age bracket ranging from 40 to 60 surfed the Internet for three given intentions had no significant difference, around 71% to 77%.
