Professor show on television.
The reading and the listening passage talk about the pros and cons of professors being on a television show. The writer mentions a few benefits related to the topic while the speaker in the listening passage disagrees with the author's statement. She doubts whether anyone will really get the benefit when professors choose to come on T.V.
First, the author mentions that when professors perform on the television show then they get popular among the people outside the campus. The speaker opposes the claim. She says that by such shows, professors, who choose to do their show on T.V., are not considered serious by their colleagues. According to the speaker, it is not considered good with respect to the professional standpoint.
Also, the author notes that universities reputation will also increase when people acknowledge their faculty members. Additionally, it will also help to get funds for the university projects and research topics. The lecturer denies the argument. She claims that when professors indulge in doing extra shows, they get busy with rehearsing for it and also doing other additional work such as traveling and so on. Due to this, professors are not able to pay attention to their academic work i.e. research, attending university events, and giving time to their students.
Lastly, the author states that professors' ideas will be shared among other people. Moreover, people, who are not able to reach directly to professors, can learn through their on-screen recording. The lecturer refutes the author's statement. She argues that all television programs are not about the research work of professors. They only invite them to talk about a particular article that is not research-based.
