The bar chart depicts the data about the average expenditures by families in relation to weekly income in a certain country in 1968 and 2018.
In general, the spending on food, fuel and power, things and footwear, and personal goods suffered a downward trend while the spending on housing, transport, and leisure experienced an upward trend. In addition, spending on household goods remained stable.
Looking at the chart, we can see that in 1968, the most money was used for food, at 35% of total income per week. However, this figure was halved in 2018. This similar decreased pattern happened with things and footwear and personal goods, from 10% to 5% and from 8% to 4%, respectively. The expenditure on fuel and power declined considerably from about 6% in 1968 to about 4% in 2018.
In terms of utilising money on the remaining items, housing and transport roughly doubled in that time of the survey, from 10% to 19% and from 8% to 14%, respectively. The expenditure on leisure surged from 8% to a peak of 22%. Household goods stayed unchanged at 8%.
