The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The diagram describes how sugar is produced from sugarcane.
Overall, there are seven stages involved in the production of sugar, beginning with planting and growing of sugarcane and ending up with drying and cooling of sugar crystals.
First of all, sugarcane are planted on farmlands and allowed to grow till it is matured for harvesting.
This process takes between twelve to eighteen months.
After that, the next stage is harvesting, which can be done either manually using simple farm tools or by mechanised engines such as tractors when planted on a large scale.
Subsequently, the sugarcane are transferred into a crushing machine which helps to extract the juice.
Following the above processes, the juice extracted is poured into a purifying funnel which has a limestone attached to it to make the juice pure.
Then the purified juice is moved into an evaporator so as to transform the juice into a syrup.
The evaporator has a heat source attached to it which helps with the production at this stage.
In the next stage, the centrifuge separates the crystals from the syrup.
Finally, the sugar is allowed to undergo drying and cooling, ready for human consumption.
